Cliff Springs Trail

A short and surprisingly scenic hike, Cliff Springs Trail was one of the biggest surprises of my first visit to the North Rim. At just over a mile round trip, the official trail descends into a side canyon to a beautiful seeping spring tucked beneath a lush overhang. The contrast between the dry forest above and the ferns, wildflowers, and greenery surrounding the spring makes this little oasis feel especially magical.

Despite its short length, this hike offers beautiful canyon scenery and a peaceful setting that many visitors overlook. I almost always combine Cliff Springs with nearby Cape Royal and Cape Final for a wonderful day exploring the east side of the North Rim.

Don’t Miss…

Although the official trail ends at the spring, don’t stop there. A well-worn dirt path continues farther along the canyon ledge, offering the best views of the hike. While careful footing is required, it isn’t especially difficult and is well worth the extra few minutes.

Short and delightful hike along a side canyon on the North Rim, leading to a seeping spring.
