Cassidy Arch
One of the most rewarding hikes in Capitol Reef, leading to a dramatic natural arch you can walk across. The Cassidy Arch Trail combines a scenic canyon approach, a steady climb, and expansive views the entire way—making it one of the park’s most popular hikes for good reason.
The Experience
The experience begins before the trail even starts, following the dirt road through Grand Wash—a wide, sculpted canyon that sets the tone immediately. From the trailhead at the end of the drivable section, the route climbs steadily upward on well-built stone steps, gaining elevation without ever feeling overly exposed.
As the trail winds higher, the views continue to open—layered cliffs, desert textures, and the sense of standing above the canyon you just walked through. The final approach leads directly to Cassidy Arch itself, where the scale becomes clear. You can walk out onto the arch, with open space on either side and wide views stretching across Capitol Reef.
This is one of those hikes where the payoff matches the effort, and the experience builds the entire way.
Don’t Miss…Walk out onto the arch itself. It’s wide enough to feel comfortable for most people, and the perspective from above the canyon makes this hike stand out.
A steady climb above Grand Wash leads to a dramatic arch you can walk across, with views building the entire way.
