Close-up hoodoos and red rock formations along Swamp Canyon Loop trail, Bryce Canyon Utah

Swamp Canyon Loop

If you’ve already explored Bryce’s headline hikes and want something quieter, the Swamp Canyon Loop is a perfect next step. This trail moves through a more open, forested landscape where red rock formations appear along the edges of canyons rather than surrounding you at every turn.

The loop connects Sheep Creek and Swamp Canyon with a short stretch of the Under-the-Rim Trail, creating a peaceful route that feels removed from the main amphitheater. It’s not about nonstop drama—it’s about space, contrast, and the chance to experience Bryce in a slower, more solitary way.

A quiet, forested loop with scattered red rock formations and a more relaxed Bryce experience.

Things to Know
  • Moderate effort: Less steep than Peekaboo or Navajo, with gentler climbs and descents, though you’ll still gain and lose elevation.

  • Route connection: The loop uses a short section of the Under-the-Rim Trail—watch for junction signs.

  • Backpacking potential: Passes near backcountry sites along the Under-the-Rim Trail, making this a great intro to an easy overnight.

  • Seasonal conditions: Snow can linger into spring at this higher elevation; trails may be muddy after storms.

  • Wildflowers: Late spring can bring blooms near the meadow and rim.

More to Explore

If this quieter side of Bryce resonates, consider venturing farther along the Under-the-Rim Trail—or return to the amphitheater for contrast on hikes like Peekaboo Loop or Fairyland Loop.
