Spring Creek Canyon
Spring Creek Canyon is a stunning, sheer-walled canyon just outside Zion’s Kolob Canyons, where a small stream winds through sand, stones, and boulders. There ’s no set destination—just a steady walk deeper into the canyon. It’s a place where you can still find long stretches of complete solitude.
The route begins in a more open valley before gradually narrowing as the canyon walls rise around you. A small stream flows through much of the hike, sometimes fading into sand and reappearing again, creating varied and uneven footing.
Patches of grasses, shrubs, and small trees line parts of the canyon, with lizards and birds commonly moving through the area. In spring, wildflowers may appear. In fall, the canyon can be especially striking, with cottonwoods and other vegetation lighting up against the red rock.
Farther in, scattered boulders slow progress and require minor navigation, but nothing technical. Most people turn around after a few miles, when continuing no longer feels worth the effort.
