Par's trail fall color Virgin River with The Watchman Zion National Park

Pa'rus Trail

An easy, paved walk through the heart of Zion that’s far more rewarding than it first appears. The Pa’rus Trail follows the Virgin River with open views of canyon walls and The Watchman. Fully accessible and open to bikes, it’s one of the few places in the park designed for everyone—and still one of the most enjoyable. I overlooked it for years. Now it’s one of my favorite walks in Zion.

The Experience

The trail follows the river at a gentle grade, crossing it several times. The bridges are the natural pause points—step out over the water and the canyon settles in around you in a different way. It’s one of the easiest places in Zion to slow down without feeling like you’re missing anything.

In fall, cottonwoods line the river and turn gold, adding a softness and color that’s hard to find elsewhere in the park. It’s also one of the better stretches for photography, especially near the water and along the bridge crossings.

You’ll share the path with cyclists and e-bikes, sometimes moving quickly. It’s part of the tradeoff—but not one that takes away from the experience if you give yourself space to pause.

Don’t Miss…Pause on the bridges over the Virgin River. It’s the best place along the trail to take it all in—and one of the strongest spots for photography, especially with fall color.
